Counselling for Caregiver
Caring for a loved one is a profound act of love, yet it can also feel overwhelming, exhausting, and isolating. Many caregivers might experience guilt, burnout, or a quiet loss of their own needs, identity, and sense of balance. You may find yourself so focused on supporting your loved one else that your own well-being feels neglected.
I provide a supportive and non-judgmental space for caregivers to be honest about their experiences and emotions. This includes not only parents but also partners, siblings, extended family, and friends who play a significant role in the care of someone struggling with mental health and/or chronic illness, as well as some with neurodiversity.
In therapy, we focus on practical strategies to:
-
Build up tools in supporting your loved ones emotionally and socially
-
Set and maintain healthy boundaries
-
Build resilience and coping skills
-
Manage stress, guilt, and burnout
-
Strengthen emotional awareness and regulation
-
Foster compassionate self-care while continuing to support your loved one
My approach integrates principles from Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) to help caregivers understand and respond to the emotional needs of their loved ones while attending to their own. This approach emphasizes connection, empathy, and emotional coaching, helping caregivers navigate difficult moments without losing their own sense of self.
You do not have to choose between caring for your loved one and caring for yourself — both are possible. With guidance, support, and tools, you can maintain your own well-being while continuing to offer meaningful support to those you care about.
